The PS3's equivalent to the 360's RROD.

The 360 has been beaten by SONY fanboys, one side journalist and pissed off gamers for a while now about the dreaded red ring of death( RROD ) problems that happen in some XBOX 360's. However they turn a blind eye to the fact that Microsoft stands behind their product by fixing the 360 for completely free even if there is no warranty. Now it seems there may be a new wide spread problem for the PS3 on the horizon which would take away its title of being a stable machine( which it is ). The problem thats rearing its ugly head is an error code "80010514" which relates to a faulty sector on the harddrive and firmware installation. Apparently your PS3 will need replacing if the error occurs so now might be a good time to buy the extended warranty if you haven't already because it would more then likely take a severe widespread problem( even more so then the 360's RROD ) and SONY being dragged to court before they would even admit the problem or do anything at their expense to help the customer( if history teaches us anything ).

This is why I have never liked the idea of SONY using firmware updates for the PS3, whether people admit it or not they are temperamental and can easily turn your nice PS3 into a big ass paperweight.

I've been hearing a lot about this error lately. If it does become widespread, it will be huge slap to the face for all of the Sony fan boys who criticized the RROD every chance the got. I did get the RROD once(Right before Christmas too, what luck). I admit that it was a lazy mistake on Microsoft's part to even let a problem like the RROD happen, but they fixed my console and had it back to me in a two week period, so I really wasn't gone without my console for that long at all.

Well wasn't the PS2's failure rate the same as the 360's now?

It's hilarious fanboys think that the console they love is flawless. But like fanboys they'll refuse to accept the truth.

The PS2's failure rate was probably worse then the inflated number of the 360's. While the RROD is like a bastard child to MS, they do at least stand behind their product and offer to fix it for free.

That they do, Pitt.

I learned something interesting the otherday, however. A coworker of mine got the RROD on his xbox, but there's a twist on it. As long as he removes his Hard Drive from the console, it still plays games no problem. At first I called bullshit, but I saw it myself. I'm gonna try it if my 360 gets the ring.

He had saved his call of duty 4 maps to his memory card and is now happily playing them, not even needing to send his 360 in yet.

Man that would be screwed up if all you had to do was replace the HD to fix the RROD, lol.

hmm your right if this becomes a widespread problem that will probably strike reliability off the ps3's feature list. However this problem could easily be fixed by putting a laptop 2.5 inch hdd in to replace the one with a failing sector.. however you would have to buy the drive yourself which isnt so bad if you were planning on upgrading to a larger one anyways. kinda sucks that the 360 uses a proprietary hard drive which means the replacement must come from Microsoft but it is possible to do the same for a possible RROD fix
