IGN's biggest SONY fanboy reviews GTA 4.

Although IGN gave the game a perfect 10( as if that wasn't enough to show their impartial ability to actually being secure enough to review a game past fanboy logic ), they did so while taking a cheap shots at the 360 version of the game. It completely baffles me why IGN would allow Hilary Goldstein to review such a momentous game? He has proved on more then one occasion he is against MICROSOFT and all for SONY. IGN itself has a podcast called "three red rings" which is a direct shot at the 360, which would explain why they let Hilary review the game( which no longer leave me baffled ). Follow the link to see Hilary in action. http://gamersvue.wordpress.com/2008/02/07/hilary-goldstein-ign-360-editor-bashes-xbox-360/

The PS3 version has "less aliasing" (a plus) while the Xbox 360 version has a "brighter picture and more vibrant colors.

Apparently IGN and Hilary have an agenda. ROCKSTAR has stated since the start that both versions of the game are identical. Yet Hilary apparently has genetic freak X-man eyes because he is the only one who can see these "mythical" differences in the two games. Fans have a strong reason to question this mans reviews and even more so question IGN's professionalism. Throughout Hilary's review he praised the game like a brain dead fanboy while throwing out subtle and not so subtle shots at the 360 version.

For those wanting to know which version looks better, the edge goes to the PS3. The textures and framerate are comparable, but the PS3 has far less pop-in. The 360 has richer colors, but the PS3 has better anti-aliasing making it look a little cleaner. Because GTA IV can preload onto the PS3 hard drive, the in-game loads are faster. Don't worry Xbox owners, the load times are rarely more than 30 seconds and don't occur very often. The slight visual edge goes to PS3, but the 360 is no slouch. Either version will do you proud.

His statement above he is simply "trying" to hide his bias against the 360, basically covering his ass. Throughout the review he throws out these remarks and anytime it seems like he's giving props to the 360 version, he takes it away by proclaiming the PS3 does something better. This guy is seriously delusional. But many PS3 fans have grasped onto his statements like flies to shit, its sad really. The only argumentative proof that dip shit fanboys have to "claim" their version is better is comments from another dip shit fanboy in a higher position.

While GTA IV is pushing the PS3 and 360 to the limit, it also runs amazingly well. Sure, there are framerate hitches here and there and (particularly on 360) there is some texture pop-in, but it actually runs better than I expected.
^ Case & point. I'm not declaring the 360 version is superior nor am I saying the PS3 version is, but frankly ING has no credibility and have a serious agenda, or SONY signed check, or both. You also have to question if the 360 version will get a fair shake by any site. After all their are many and I mean many who feel GTA should only be on the PS3, and these people are the ones working at these sites. Put honestly SONY needs GTA 4 to be more successful on the PS3, what better way to drive sales then to grease a few sites and their reviewers to proclaim PS3 superiority. Hilary Goldtein should never have been allowed to review this game, hell IGN should have never been allowed to even touch it. Hilary is a complete biased asshole only overshadowed by the dip shits who hold his leash and apparently knows more about the games then the developers themselves.

ING's bias for SONY is not unfounded. Its rumored ROCKSTAR will be using Gamespy's servers for the PS3 version of the game, gamespy and IGN are merged. Lot of avenues to take there.

As for what Sony is doing to prepare—their fate lies in the hands of Rockstar (who rumor has it is actually using Gamespy's servers). Because they don't offer a backend to host games like Xbox LIVE, they avoid the headache for a trade-off of a little risk, and almost no say in fixing potential problems that may arise.

GTA 4 will be an awesome game on either system but for those of you using Hilary's remarks as a point for your " my version is better" argument, seriously get a goddamn clue! To think this game would be shitty on either system is wishful thinking on both sides of the field and it surely doesn't help when you have a MAN named Hilary instigating.

At 43:30 they say that the ps3 has less pop in and that the 360 is running at a higher resolution but has more pop in.

Yeah, very credible review, now running damage control.

Holy ****.

A person on the internet whose not a fanboy and actually has some common sense up in that cranium of his?

This blog just became one of my favorites. Great Article. I've been posting on GameFaq's PS3 boards in some fanboys topics with pretty much the same opinion.

No matter WHAT version you get, you're going to have a kick ass time. And Hilary Goldstein does seem like an ass from the podcasts I've listened too...

I also read your article on Patcher (first time here), great read. Keep the blog posts coming.

Hey,

I like your blog, I've been reading it for a whole now, but there is one (large) problem with it.

You never counterattack with real proof (actual links to other interviews, reviews, in-depths, etc). You say here that Goldstein is the only complaining about the 360s graphical issues? But is that true? Has someone else said that it looks better, or it looks the same?

Than show us. Anyways, keep the good work.

hahahahha!! What are you 12? Rockstar says that the games are identical so you take that at face value? Come on! That is NEVER EVER the truth. There is always a difference. And Hillary stated those differences. All of which made the impact of the game no less great. So shut up.

It's the reviewer's job to review the game, which does in fact entail describing the differences between 360 and ps3 versions.

Rockstar, who developed both, isn't going to come out and say one version is clearly better than the other performance wise -- that would piss off fans, and their anger would be directed toward Rockstar. If you look at all the multiplatform games, you'll see that it is very common for developers to say both are identical -- that's the safest answer from a group trying to sell the product on two different platforms. But the games are very rarely identical on both platforms, and I don't see why GTAIV is expected to be some sort of exception.

IGN isn't the first to report that the PS3 version runs better; IGN is simply the first time it's been reported so concretely and by legitimate sources. I mean, isn't it a little ridiculous to attack the reviewer for their findings? Do you REALLY think they simply made it all up? And why would they do that - to make 360 fans mad?

Just get over it. The PS3 version runs better thanks to the hard drive. The 360 version runs fine, but there are multiple reports that the PS3 version runs slightly better. You claim to be a neutral party but it's pretty clear that you're more inline with 360 or a little biased against PS3 - I mean, why else would you get so upset over the findings of a reviwer who's actually played both versions?

So I skimmed some of your other posts on your blog... and pretty much all of them have a strong 360 bias present. You're just another 360 fanboy claiming to be unbiased and balanced.

Flash pan,

In a preview a while back Hilary made the same statements, the hundreds of other sites fed off of his preview, thus making more idiots believe it to be true. The same thing will happen here, but I would expect a more honest assessment from Gametrailers. I have provide proof to Hilary and IGN's bias, thats what the links are for.

cartman86,

there is an adult warning before coming into this blog, please abide by it next time.

dfyb,

I do agree with you partially. But frankly there is too much riding on this game for the PS3. Hilary is the only one to make these claims, Hilary has openly trashed the 360 and stated his desire for the PS3 victory( follow podcast link). Excuse me if I take his shit with some salt.

You ask why would they make it up. Did you even read my blog? R* is rumored to be using gamespy/ign's servers for the PS3 online portion. Do you think ign/gamespy is just letting them do it cost free? Not only would R* have to pay them, but ign could guarantee more money in their pocket by swaying buyers decisions buy having more PS3 users. Sure online is free, but IGN could sell a helluva lot of ad space for that. Again, making them more money.

Or, it could be Hilary is just a dip shit fanboy.

dfyb,

try actually reading the blogs. SONY puts themselves out there way more than microsoft does, but I assure you when microsoft fucks up I'll rip into em. I can't help reality puts SONY in the spotlight all the time.

Have you played both versions?
If so, what is your opinions on both versions?
If not, do not complain about it until you yourself have played both.

also read what is said here:

keep in mind this was written before the IGN review was released

The IGN reviewer said the same thing as the FOUNDER of Rockstar said in his interview with 1up.com

I am confused, you say that you are not bias yet every post on your homepage is bashing people you claim are sony fanboys. I own every system, but as someone who was refered to this site hoping for fresh air in the flameboy battles, I have to say I am disappointed. maybe if you accused Microsoft flamebaits too you would have a better and bigger audience.

It's ironic to see a blog lambasting a review site for their PS3 bias, when the blog writer himself has a blatant 360 bias.

You really are too biased towards the 360, and we have no way of knowing if Goldstein's comments are true or not until more opinions come in. At best you should warn people to be wary of his views (which I am) instead of calling them lies.

I could bash the shit out of MS, but I would have to backlog to do so. Trust me when MS screws up I'll write about it. Its not about accusiing one side of fanboys over the other, I visit quite a few gaming forums and honestly the PS3 boys are the ones acting out over this game and its review.

Its ironic to see someone commenting on a blog w/o actually reading said blog. Much like an insecure fanboy you just skim over the stuff I've written, and see that it doesn't sucks sonys cock so you call me an XBOX fanboy. Please, elaborate just how I am an XBOX FB?

sebbe,

You post one bullshit link that claims "unnamed R* employees" said PS3 is better, then you post one link to Sam Housers interview and I quote

Houser does admit that the two versions do look somewhat different, in his view, and he seems to even lean ever-so slightly the way of the PS3 edition.

"There’s a slight difference in the way they look," he offers. "I think that’s to do with really low-level technical stuff that I’m not the guy to explain.

"The 360 games have a certain look to them; PS3 games have a certain look to them. I like the way [the PS3 version] renders.

Personal preference is a far cry from confirmation that one version looks better then the other, dumb ass!
